Worker crushed between EWP platform and roof

A roof plumber has died after he was crushed between a steel roof beam and the basket of an elevating work platform at North Blackburn Shopping Centre.

It's understood the 25-year-old was operating the EWP while in the basket at about 10.30am when it was lifted to roof level, crushing him. He was taken to hospital but later died.

The PPTEU and WorkSafe are reminding employers and members about the importance of safe systems of work when using elevating work platforms (EWPs).

Below is a link to the WorkSafe Alert and Guidance.

In the link you can download the "Elevating Work Platforms industry standard (Edition 4)" , which talks about industry standards, including the requirement for a Safety Observer.
