Public holiday for Grand Final

Another Labor Promise Delivered with New Public Holiday

Minister for Small Business, Phillip Dalidakis lodged a notice of decision confirming the Andrews Labor Government’s election commitment to make Grand Final Friday a public holiday from 2015.

The new public holiday will deliver massive benefits across the State, boosting regional tourism and giving Victorians more quality time to spend with their families and friends.

The notice of decision was signed by the Minister following the conclusion of the Regulatory Impact Statement process.

The public holiday will be officially introduced via a notice in the Government Gazette allowing Victorian businesses time to put in place their trading arrangements and to organize employee rosters.

Employees who are required to work on these days will also benefit from public holiday penalty rates, ensuring they are compensated fairly.

All employees are entitlement to payment for this day.
